Pine cones

Today is the three month anniversary of Gwenny's Gotcha day. To celebrate, we took a walk outside in the cool December sunshine, crunched through the fallen leaves and collected pine cones. Then we came inside and shared a pudding snack.

She's 17.5 months old and about 24 pounds. She wears size 18 month tops and size 12 month pants. Her shoe size is a 5.

We've had some exciting developments this past month. Gwen is becoming more verbal and recently started responding to our questions with "yes" and "no". This is a giant communication milestone! She's still not very talkative but in addition to Yes and No (and the appropriate head nod for each), she can say "again" and "on". For example, she'll bring me her shoe and say "on". She likes it when I sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and she'll say "again" every time we come to the end. She's also started repeating something that sounds very much like "uppa buv the" as in Up above the world so high....

She's very social and greets everyone (and every thing!) with a big smile and a very enthusiastic "Hi!". She understands just about everything we say and will cheerfully comply with simple requests but doesn't show much interest in calling things or people by their names.

I'm predicting that we'll see her verbal skills improve tenfold in the next month.

It will happen over night, I'm telling. And be ready! I know you have a son so mothering is not new to ya. But just in case you forget - I have a three year old (she turned three today) and I'm thinking back to how we sat for hours trying to teach her to walk and talk by herself. And now, we are trying to teach her how to sit quietly for at least five minutes on command when we need to pick our ears off the floor and regather our senses from the chaos. :)

And dont you hate that the shirts never match the pants in size for toddlers??? Every single one of my girls - I could never buy complete outfits cause it would say 18 months and the shirt fit fine. But the pants were the size that would fit a four year old!!! When will manufactorer's get it? The torso grows faster than the legs for the first five years!!! GRrrrr! hehehehe :)

She's making major strides...that's great! She always looks so happy in her pictures. Is she ever in a bad mood?

Bridget, I do remember those days! My son started talking very early and I loved his little inquisitive voice until he learned how to argue. Now we're in the silent teenage years where he only speaks if he wants something (hee hee).

Kim, Gwen is happy 99.9% of the time. But she has her unhappy moments too. Not really a "bad mood" but just brief moments of clinginess where she hangs from me like a baby monkey. She's very easy to comfort though.

Happy Anniversary! Wow! Gwen and Sophie are almost the exact same size! I think you are right- you will see her verbal skills improving by the day. It seems like just a minute ago when Sophie could only say Mama, Dada, & Baba. Now she knows over 30 words and identifies everything she sees! It really seems to happen overnight! Beautiful photo, btw- Gwen is gorgeous!

She's such a smiley baby..One would never guess that she's been through so much in her little lifetime. She seems so happy, Donna. It's obvious how well loved she is.
Although, I'm not sure who's luckier...her or you.
